A tribute to a special lady

In 2000 my elder sister Adele (Dell) said " wouldnt it be fun to have a dance competition down Trecco bay, you could speak to the manager, contact a few dance teams and youth clubs and we could all stay the weekend". I was really busy running my voluntary youth group at the time and although I agreed it would be great fun, I put it in my list of things to try and achieve.

Adele and my mum had been fantastic support to me over the years, my mum with her organisational skills left over from being a Head waitress and matre dee for many years and  Dell for her experience as a nurse at a hospital for severly physically and mentaly disabled, we had anything up to 50 youths under 12 in the group and they all called my mum nan and Dell aunty Dell.

She was always there for them, Dell and her 'magic bag', no matter what you needed she would say "pass my bag" and it would apppear. Unfortunately Dell sufered an injury at work many years before that left her walking on a stick, but despite all the pain she was consantly in she never moaned, and would encourage, comfort and console all the kids whenever they needed it.

December 2002 Adele died and it brought a few things home to me,
Wales streetdance association is a tribute to her, especialy Trecco bay, every year we present one team with a special award called 'The Della cup', the cup is awarded to the most supportive group, not neccesarilly the largest or the loudest. The cup has gone to groups with only handfull in, but those groups have clapped, cheered and really enjoyed themselves all day.

One thing that Dell felt really strong about was support, she would say " they had the guts to get up there the least we can do is support them", she would sit right at the front, in competitions and clap for every single dancer who went out and would always pick out the winners and the future champions.

The first time we gave the cup it was really hard for me and my family but as time goes by, it warms us to think that a little bit of Dell and what she belived in is being spread all over Wales.
